Healing
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. Reiki can also be done without touching the body directly.
Eastern medicine also relies on the idea of there being energy centres in the body, referred to as "chakras" or "seals" which relate to certain areas and organs of the body. Throughout the body, there are energy lines called "meridians" which are all interconnected. If chakras or meridians get blocked for any reason, particularly due to stress, this can cause problems in both the mind and the body, such as depression and physical illness. Reiki healing can release these blockages and help the body be restored to it's natural state of self-healing.
Sessions are 50 minutes long and people report different experiences, such as deep relaxation, a feeling of being nurtured and sometimes seeing lovely colours.
The most important thing is to be open to receiving healing energy and to embrace the whole experience.
